Arthur Gignilliat, Sr. Scholarship
This scholarship was established was 1997 by the Armstrong Alumni Association in memory of Dr. Arthur Gignilliat, Sr. Dr. Gignilliant joined the first faculty of Armstrong Junior College in 1935. During his tenure at Armstrong, he served as chairman of the math and English departments, as registrar, and as Vice President and Dean of the Evening College. During his career, he also directed the Graduate Center at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, served as Assistant to the Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, was head of the English Department of Valdosta State College, and was President of Dalton College. This scholarship is available to current to incoming members of the Honors Program on the Armstrong campus. This is an Armstrong Alumni Legacy Scholarship meaning recipient must be demonstrably related by blood, marriage, or adoption to an alumnus of any incarnation of the institution of higher learning known as Armstrong (Armstrong Junior College, Armstrong State College, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Armstrong State University).
