Brittany "Ally" Harbuck Memorial Scholarship

The Brittany (Ally) Harbuck Memorial Scholarship was established in 2005 after the death of Georgia Southern student, Ally Harbuck. The scholarship was created by her parents, Debi and David Harbuck of Savannah, and raised the funds to endow the scholarship.

She was a graduate of Effingham County High School, a freshman at Georgia Southern University and a member of Gamma Ro Lambda Sorority. A talented writer, Ally was on the staff of the “George Ann” at Georgia Southern and was a member of the Georgia Southern Chapter of NOW.

Applicants should be rising sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in Creative Writing who have maintained a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipient must be nominated by professors in the Department of Writing and Linguistics based on samples of writings produced in class.

The B.A. in Writing is unique in Georgia for offering a major that incorporates the fields of creative writing, linguistics, professional & technical writing, and writing studies. Our majors learn and practice an array of writing and analytical skills that allow students to design their own experience according to their educational, creative, and professional goals.
