F. Vreeland George University Honors Program Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1999 by the engineering firm of Thomas & Hutton upon the retirement of company founder, Vreeland George. Mr. George was born in Savannah and was employed by Thomas & Hutton Engineering Co. for forty-four years before retiring as President in 1995. He held the position of President for twenty-four years and was registered as an engineer in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida. Mr. Georgia graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering and served in the U.S. Marine Corps where he obtained the rank of Lt. Col. In the Reserves. He held the position of Director for the Consulting Engineering Council of Georgia and was named Engineer of the year by that organization in 1987. Mr. Georgia also sat on the Board for the Royce Learning Center, served as President of Rotary Club of Savannah, and was a Life Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Savannah. This scholarship is available to members of the University Honors Program. First preference shall be given to Engineering majors.
