Fleming D. Roach MD Scholarship

Established in 2013 by the Roach family, this scholarship memorializes the life of Dr. Fleming D. Roach. Dr. Roach was born in 1913 in Statesboro, Georgia. He graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School and went on to attend Georgia Teachers College before he transferred to the University of Georgia. Following graduation, he attended the Medical College of Georgia where he earned his Ph.D. He served as a physician in Jacksonville, Florida for over forty-five years before his passing in 2010. This scholarship will be awarded equally to two recipients from each of two fields of study. Qualified candidates will be chosen from Pre-medicine and Nursing or Nursing Practitioner. Candidates should be a junior, senior or graduate level students having an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference may be given to residents of South Carolina, Florida and Georgia. If no outstanding candidate is found from those three states, then another candidate may be chosen. The scholarships shall be awarded annually and prior recipients may reapply in successive years, but are not guaranteed annually.
