Fodor Scholarship Fund
Gary Fodor, Assistant Professor of Spanish, died February 24, 1995. During his years at Armstrong, Gary Fodor distinguished himself as a classroom teacher as well as a tireless promoter of Spanish language and culture. His boundless energy and enthusiasm, extending far beyond the campus community, earned him many friends. He established the Armstrong Hispanic Society, which was instrumental in planning Savannah’s Quincentennial Celebration in 1992. Recognizing that there was no forum whereby language students could meet and share their interests, Gary conceived ICEFLO, the Inter-Collegiate English and Foreign Language Oratorical Competition, which had become an annual event, growing in each of its three years and bringing to Armstrong campus students from Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. His Noche Tropical events attracted people from all over the Coastal Empire, Hispanic and non-Hispanic alike, to share their enjoyment of Latin music and dance.
The Fodor Scholarship was established in 2005. The Fodor Scholarship Fund is for a deserving Armstrong student for tuition or foreign travel. Enrolled student at Armstrong with either a major in Spanish or minor in Spanish. Preference is given to applicant with unmet financial need.
