Gay Kimbrough Dull University Honors Program Scholarship

This scholarship was created in 1998 by Mrs. Gay Kimbrough Dull. Mrs. Dull was born in Miami, Florida and graduated from College Park High School. Mrs. Dull graduated from Georgia Southern in 1951 with her bachelor’s in Upper Elementary Education and went on to attend George Peabody College for Teachers (now Vanderbilt University) and graduated in 1954 with her master’s. She later attended Georgia State University where she received her Library/Science certification. While attending Peabody, Mrs. Dull was president of the nation’s largest chapter of the Association of Childhood education. As an alumna of Georgia Southern, she served on the Georgia Southern University Foundation Board and was the first Trustee to become an Emeritus. Mrs. Dull first began teaching in the Atlanta Public School System and she later transferred to the William McGuffey University Laboratory School at Miami University in Ohio. She was named “Ideal Teacher of Today” in 1955. During her life, Mrs. Dull served as sponsor for the Dames Club, which represented married student wives. She also served as Treasurer of the Alpha Xi Delta Building Corporation for forty years. In 2012, Alpha Xi presented Gay with the Order of the Rose for over fifty years of membership. In 1991, Georgia Tech honored Mrs. Dull as an Honorary Alumna where her husband served as Dean of Students. This scholarship is available to members of the University Honors Program.
