Irene Burt Boole Botany Scholarship
Established in 1989 by Dr. John Boole, this scholarship memorializes the life of his late wife, Irene Burt Boole. Dr. Boole began teaching at Georgia Teachers College in 1955 and retired in 1988. He formed this scholarship in honor of his wife and she passed in 2002. The scholarship is available to Biology students whose emphasis lies within plant sciences. Candidates must be enrolled full time during the award period.
Dr. Boole was born in December of 1921 in Onancock, Virgnia. He worked tirelessly in the Newport News shipyard and served in the Navy during World War II. He earned his B.S. from the University of Virginia, his Master of Science degree in Botany from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and his Ph.D. from from the University of the North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1955, Dr. Boole moved to Statesboro.
