Joseph R. Pond University Honors Program Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 by Georgia Southern alumnus Joseph R. Pond. Pond grew up in Augusta, Georgia and graduated from the Academy of Richmond in 1961. He earned his bachelors in Business in 1965 from Georgia Southern College. Following graduation, Joseph began working for his father, Miles, at A.B. Beverage Company where he became President and General Manage upon his father’s passing in 1978. During his service, Mr. Pond was instrumental in expanding the company in Evans and Aiken. Mr. Pond was a member of the Elks Club for over forty-one years and was a charter member, past President, and board member of the Masters City Sertoma Club. He was also a proud member of the Westlake County Club, past President and member of the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Beer Wholesalers Association, and member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Beer Wholesalers Association. Mr. Pond was a supporter of education, the arts, athletics, community events, and philanthropy. He is remembered as a man who loved to hunt, fish, work with tractors, and ride his horse, April. Mr. Pond passed after a long battle with cancer. This scholarship is available to members of the University Honors Program.
