Leonard and Betty Blount Scholarship for Entrepreneurship Students

Leonard and Betty Blount Scholarship for Entrepreneurship Students

This scholarship was founded in 2006 by entrepreneur Leonard Blount and his wife, Betty. Blount owns multiple businesses in Statesboro such as La Berry Frozen Yogurt Café, Shane’s Rib Shack, Mellow Mushroom, and others. The Waynesboro native attended Georgia Southern in 1972 before transferring to the University of Georgia where he majored in Business with an emphasis in Risk Management. He graduated in 1976 and found work in the insurance business where he worked his way up the ladder and eventually had his own firm, Blount, Burke, Wimberly, & Hendricks Insurors. However, he left insurance to develop commercial buildings and found commercial success, owning the popular Market District Center in Statesboro, Georgia. The Blount’s hope this scholarship will support future entrepreneurs. The scholarship is available to students majoring in Business Management who have designated a concentration of entrepreneurship/small business management. Students should have a grade point average of 3.0 (out of 4.0) in all business courses attempted. Preference should be given to juniors or rising juniors.
