Lewis Stewart University Honors Program Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 by Mr. James D. Henley (1976) and Mrs. Donna Henley (1977), both of whom are Georgia Southern University College of Business alumni, in honor of Mr. Lewis Stewart, a long-time Georgia Southern employee and friend. Mr. Stewart received his B.S. from Harding College in 1957 and his M.B.A from Texas Tech in 1960. He first began teaching at Lubbock Christian College in 1957 and became a faculty member at Georgia Southern in 1970. While at Georgia Southern, he had the unique distinction of have taught courses in Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Management. In 1978, he was elected as the first director of the Small Business Development Center for the district which included thirty-seven counties. Since 1979, he developed a database of more than 17,000 Georgia Southern University College of Business Administration alumni which led to the formation of the Eagle Executive, COBA’s alumni newsletter. He previously served as Director of Alumni for COBA, Director of the Georgia Southern Agricultural Finance School, Director of the Economic Education Center, a member of the Board of Directors of the Raintree Children’s Home in Valdosta, charter member of the Statesboro Midday Optimist Club, and treasurer of the Statesboro Church of Christ. Upon his retirement from Georgia Southern, Mr. Stewart was named Emeritus Assistant Professor. This scholarship is available to members of the University Honors Program. First preference shall be given to Finance majors.
