Lt. Col. (Ret.) Mary Witt Wexler, USAF Nurse Corps Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2010 by Col. USAF (Ret.) Edward I. Wexler, this scholarship memorializes the life of his late wife Lt. Col. (Ret.) Mary Witt Wexler, USAF Nurse Corps. Mrs. Wexler was born in Savannah and graduated from Savannah High school before earning her Associates and B.S. from Armstrong Atlantic University. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Health Services Management from Webster University and her certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Georgia Southern. She began her nursing career at Candler Hospital, particularly serving in the emergency room and Intensive Care Unit. In 1975, Mary joined the Georgia Air National Guard as a Nurse Practitioner. During this service, she traveled around the world and worked in missions such as Desert Shield, the Macon Floods, and the Centennial Olympics in Savannah. In 1982, the Air National Guard named here Outstanding Nurse of the Year and she retired in 200 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. This scholarship is available to students enrolled in the School of Nursing who exhibit interest in scholarly pursuits within the field of nursing and a commitment to the health professions. The recipient must be on the Armstrong Campus and be taking at least one class. Preference will be given to students who are working full-time
