Michael Braz Music Scholarship
Established in 2000, this scholarship honos Dr. Michael Braz, former Professor Emeritus of Music at Georgia Southern. Before arriving in Statesboro, Dr. Braz served as the associate director of the Miami Choral Society, the conductor/musical director of the Boy Singers of Maine, and the founder of Tallahassee’s Capital Children’s Chorus and the Statesboro Youth Chorale. For his work, he has been awarded Georgia Southern’s President’s Medal, the Award for Excellence in Service, the Ruffin Cup Faculty Award from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Statesboro Herald. The Averitt Center for the Arts has also named Dr. Braz a Legend in the Arts and has served on their Arts Council Board. Since his retirement, he has joined the Peace Corps to teach English in Armenia.
