Naughton Beasley University Honors Program Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 by Georgia Southern alumna Bette B. Anderson Wood in honor of her cousin, Naughton Beasley. Naughton graduated from Pembroke High School in 1938, but due to circumstances, he was unable to seek higher education, so he began working at a hardware store in Pembroke. In 1941, Mr. Beasley married Freida Martin and they moved to Savannah where he began to work for the railroad. During this time, they had their only child, Kay Beasley Deal. In 1947, they relocated to Statesboro, Georgia where Mr. Beasley began working with the Smith Supply Company. In 1965, Naughton began his career in Auxiliary Services with Georgia Southern as a certified locksmith and he worked his way up to manager of the division. Mr. Beasley retired in 1980, but continued to work when he could. Naughton was a charter member of the Statesboro Kiwanis Club and was a member for over thirty-seven years and served as Treasurer. He was a recipient of the Kiwanian of the Year award and the George F. Hixon Fellowship award. Upon his passing in 1998, Mr. Beasley was added to the Kiwanis Wall of Honor. He was a proud member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Beasley was an avid supporter of Georgia Southern football and basketball. This scholarship is available to members of the University Honors Program.
