Porter Keadle Moore, LLP
“I owe a lot to Georgia Southern, and it is a good feeling to support the University,” he said. Moore’s philanthropic support began at the age of 27, when he purchased a life insurance policy to fund the establishment of a scholarship in the University Honors Program.
Since that time, the alumnus has joined forces with his Atlanta, Ga., accounting firm Porter Keadle Moore to fund scholarships and sponsor the School of Accountancy’s annual Fraud and Forensic Conference. “Our firm is committed to the School of Accountancy,” said Moore, also one of the founders of the Accounting Advisory Council.
In addition to their sponsorship of the Conference, Porter Keadle Moore also supports two scholarships in the College of Business Administration, as well as an endowed fund for faculty.
“It makes sense that we take care of the faculty who are sustaining excellence within the School of Accountancy. Giving money to students is great, but what about the bread and butter of Georgia Southern – the faculty?” he explained about the establishment of the fund.
In addition to Moore’s contributions to academics, he has generously supported Georgia Southern Athletics for many years. Moore currently serves as the chairman of the Georgia Southern University Athletic Foundation, and also served as a member of the search committee that named Tom Kleinlein the University’s new athletic director.
Moore’s inspirational giving motivates many others to support the University, including Georgia Southern alumni employed by Porter Keadle Moore. “My purpose is to try to teach philanthropy from a leadership perspective,” he said, explaining the unique giving formula that he devised. Moore asks the firm’s alumni staff members to contribute $100 to Georgia Southern for each year of their employment, which has ranged from six months to nine years. Porter Keadle Moore also matches the amount contributed by these employees.
For Moore, his decision to support Georgia Southern is a simple one. “Georgia Southern was a great foundation for me. My professors really challenged me, and it was life-altering, in a very positive way.”
