Richard Mercier Memorial Music Scholarship

Established in 2015, the Richard Mercier Music Scholarship is a memorial to former Georgia Southern University Department of Music Chair, Dr. Richard Mercier. Dr. Mercier was born in 1949 in Hartford, Connecticut to a large family where he had seven siblings. He graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1967 where he was a member of the music club, glee club, chorus, choir, dance band, and orchestra. He began his tenure as Chair of the Department of Music in 2008. The community knew him as a lover of music and an excellent pianist.
