Rod and Betty Meadows University Honors Program Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2005 by Georgia Southern alumnus Rod Meadows. Mr. Meadows graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1971 with a degree in Social Science Education and went on to attend the University of Georgia. While attending Georgia Southern, Mr. Meadows was an active member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Student Body President his senior year. He graduated cum laude and enlisted as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years before attending the University of Georgia. At UGA, he was chosen Best Oralist in the Senior Moot Court Competition. During his life, Mr. Meadows has worked as an attorney, a radio news director, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Federal Executive Board, Admiral’s Aide, campaign aide to former Lt. Governor George T. Smith, shoe salesman, and janitor. During his career, Mr. Meadows specialized in healthcare law where he was Chair of the Health Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, President of the Georgia Academy of Hospital Attorneys, President of the Board of Directors of the Henry Medical Center Foundation, Founder and Chair of the Long-Term Health Care Law in Georgia, Chair of the annual Fundamentals of Health Law seminars for the Georgia Institute for Continuing Legal Education, Adjunct Professor of Healthcare Law for the University of St. Francis, member of the Task Force on Trustee Development for the Georgia Hospital Association, and author. His peers have voted him one of the “Best Lawyers in the Healthcare Law Field”, “Georgia Super Lawyers”, and he is listed in the national publication of Best Lawyers in America. Georgia Southern University awarded him the title “member Emeritus” in 2012. This scholarship is available to members of the University Honors Program.
