Zach Suddath Henderson Scholarship
Established in 1985, this scholarship memorializes the legacy and life of Dr. Zach Suddath Henderson, star student and athlete of Georgia Southern University. Born in 1902 in Gillsville, Georgia, Dr. Henderson served as principal, coach, and science teacher of Eastman High School. In June of 1927, Dr. Henderson served as Dean of Georgia Normal School until he became President in February 1948 while it was named Georgia Teachers College. During his presidency, Georgia Teachers College was desegregated and obtained the name Georgia Southern College. Dr. Henderson retired in July 1968 after serving Georgia Southern for over forty-one years. The library is named in his honor. This scholarship is open to full-time students entering their junior year and majoring in education. Applicants are selected on the basis of academic record, personal character, demonstrated talents, and commitment to teaching.
