Nella and Kelly Powell Scholarship
Established in 1992 by Georgia Teachers College alumnus (1956) Kelly E. Powell and his wife, Georgia Southern College alumna (1960) Nella Shepard Powell. Kelly was born in 1936 in Wrightsville, Georgia and had a thirty-seven year career with Georgia Pacific Corporation. He also served as the Regional Vice President of Distribution of the Western Region and Chairman of the Board of Volunteers of America. He served as an Elder and Deacon of his church. During his life, he played in the minor league on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Nella Powell earned a degree in counseling psychology and spent her life counseling, consulting in career and organizational development, and teaching and speaking at workshops and seminars. This scholarship is available to entering full-time freshmen who are graduates of Johnson County High School.
