Herbert and Beatrice Riggs Scholarship

Established in 1986 by family friends, this scholarship honors the life works of Herbert and Beatrice Riggs. Herbert Riggs was born in 1899 and attended grade school in Statesboro, as well as Statesboro High Industrial School. He also graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked as a licensed embalmer and funeral director, owning Riggs Funeral Homes in Statesboro, Sylvania, Macon, and Fitzgerald. Beatrice Riggs was born in 1898 in Macon, Georgia, She and Herbert were active community members in Statesboro. This scholarship is available to incoming freshman with preference given to majoring in human service fields of study.
