Elizabeth Leigh (Beth) Martin Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1999, this scholarship memorializes the life of Georgia Southern freshman Beth Martin. Born in March of 1978, Martin graduated from Cartersville High School in 1996 where she served as senior class secretary and was a member of the band, flag corps, soccer team, co-ed y, ecology club, Spanish club, art club, teacher cadet, and was a staff member of the CHIPPER school newspaper. During her time at Georgia Southern, she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority and was planning to transfer to the University of Georgia the following year. In 1997, Martin was killed alongside driver Josh Lynch on I-16 on he way to a Georgia-Florida game. This scholarship is available to incoming freshmen from Cartersville High School who will be enrolled as full-time students. The applicant must have an overall high school GPA of 2.5 and be actively involved in extracurricular activities. Applicants must be of high moral character and be considered a leader among their peers. If an applicant from Cartersville High School is not found, this scholarship may go to any incoming freshman from Georgia.
