Charles W. Thompson, Jr. Sciences Scholarship
Established in 2004 by Mr. David Thompson, this scholarship memorializes his father, Charles W. Thompson, Jr. Charles Thompson was born in 1924 in Douglas, Georgia and graduated from Patterson High School. He went on the receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and a degree in Business Administration from Auburn University. From 1946 to 1946 and from 1950 to 1951, Mr. Thompson served in the US Army. He retired as Director of Technical Services at Gilman Paper Company in 1986 and took up the position as Financial Secretary at St. Mary’s United Methodist Church where he had been a member for over fifty years. There, he served as Lay Leader, Chairman of the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and taught the Moore Sunday School class for over thirty years. He was honored by being recognized as a Fellow of the Society of John Wesley. This scholarship is available to incoming freshmen from the state of Georgia who are pursuing any degree within the College of Science and Technology. This scholarship will be offered to students with SAT scores ranging from 900 to 1100 or with a GPA of 2.25 to 3.25. This scholarship is renewable.
