Dr. C. Emory Bohler Memorial Scholarship

PRE-MED STUDENTS ONLY FROM BULLOCH COUNTY: This scholarship was established in 2008 by medical professionals in Statesboro, Georgia in memory of Dr. C. Emory Bohler. Dr. Bohler was born in 1924 in Bulloch County at graduated valedictorian from Register High School. He attended North Georgia College, the University of Georgia, and graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1950. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1954 and did his internship at Columbia Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1955, Dr. Bohler began his family practice in Brooklet. During his life, he served in the United States Army Air Corp 20th Bomber Group during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He received a Purple Heart and Air Medal as a gunner on the B29 Bomber. Dr. Bohler was an active member of the Brooklet United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the Administrative Board and was a member of the Jack Lee Sunday School Class. He was President of the Brooklet Kiwanis Club, a member of the American Legion, Post 90, was the first physician on the Bulloch Memorial Hospital Authority, President of the Ogeechee River Medical Society, President of the Medical Association of Georgia, Chairman of the Georgia Delegation to the American Medical Association, a member of the Southern Medical Association, and a member of the Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce. He also served as team physician for Southeast Bulloch High School and was elected to the SEB Athletic Hall of Fame. Dr. Bohler was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Theta Kappa Psi Fraternity, Forest Heights County Club, The Chatham Club, Amelia Island Plantation Club, 1906 Society, The Georgia Southern University Athletic Boosters Club, and was a member of the Georgia Southern University Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Bohler received the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award, Deen Day Smith Lifetime Achievement Award, was recognized as Citizen of the Year by the Statesboro Rotary Club and was honored with “Doctors Day” in the City of Brooklet.

The recipient of the Dr. C. Emory Bohler Memorial Scholarship must be pursuing a degree within the University with an emphasis in Pre-Medicine with plans to attend medical school once graduating from Georgia Southern University. The recipient must be a rising junior or senior; with a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Only students from Bulloch County will be given consideration.
