Ori James Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship
Established in 2011, this scholarship memorializes the life of Ori James. Dr. James was born in 1931 in Texas, but spent most of his childhood in Chile. While studying at Texas A&M, he enlisted in the Army to serve in the Korean War where he earned a Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, and a Combat Infantryman Badge. Following his discharge, he moved back to Chile, but eventually finished his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Texas A&M and his Ph.D. at Texas Tech. Dr. James served as a professor of Accounting and Dean of the College of Business for twelve years at Georgia Southern University before retiring after a total of twenty-one years of service. Previously, he served as he president of the Southern Business Deans and was a member of the AACSB, was a past board member of the Farmers and Merchants Bank, and was a former member of the Rotary Club of Statesboro. Dr. James was a proud member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. A student may qualify for the award if they have a 3.0 GPA or higher in the College of Business.
