Paul G. LaGrone Accounting Scholarship
Established in 1983, this scholarship memorializes the life and works of Dr. Paul LaGrone, founding dean of Georgia Southern’s College of Business. Born in 1916 in Greenville, Mississippi, Dr. LaGrone earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Alabama in 1958. However, he had postponed his education to serve as a Lt. Commander during WWII, serving as a naval aviator. In 1962, Dr. LaGrone joined the Georgia Southern College faculty as Chairman of the Division of Business which he successfully developed and later become the School of Business. He served as Dean from 1971 to 1974. During his life, he was a member and officer of Rotary International, the Coastal Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and the First Presbyterian Church. He was recognized with the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award in 1990 and he passed in 2009. The scholarship honors Dr. LaGrone by assisting full time accounting majors who have attained the status of junior with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a grade of B or better in Intermediate Accounting I.
