Dorothy L. Moore Scholarship

Established in 1991 by Dr. Dorothy L. Moore, this scholarship now serves as a memorial to her life and works. During her life, Dr. Moore earned her BS in Vocal and Instrumental Music from Bermidji State University, her MS in Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and her PhD in Early Childhood Education from Florida State University. She worked as the vocal and instrumental music teacher and consultant at St. Cloud Minnesota Public Schools from 1950 to 1975 before relocating to Georgia Southern’s College of Education to serve as professor. She retired in 1990 after nearly fifteen years of service at Georgia Southern. Dr. Moore was deeply involved with groups such as Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Kappa Lambda, National Honorary Music Society, Music Educators Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Society International Key for Women Educators, Sigma Alpha Iota, and the International Music Fraternity. In 2001, Dr. Moore received Bermidji State University’s Outstanding Alumni Award and in 2003, she received the Deen Day Smith Award in Bulloch County, Georgia. Since she retired from professorship, she continued her community involvement through membership on the Statesboro/Georgia Southern Symphony board, the Youth Strings Program, and the Ogeechee Area Symphonic Instrumental Society. This scholarship is available to students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who is a participant in the string section of the Statesboro/Georgia Southern Symphony.
