James L. Becton, MD Scholarship

FOR PRE-MED STUDENTS ONLY Established in 1990, this scholarship was created by Dr. James L. Becton. Dr. Becton attended Georgia Teachers College from 1952 to 1954 and went on to earn his B.S. from Wake Forest University and his MD from the Medical College of Georgia in 1960. Dr. Becton was a revered orthopedic surgeon at Augusta Orthopedic Clinic and a Clinical Professor of Surgery/Orthopedics at MCG until his retirement. In 1998, Dr. Becton was named Georgia Southern University’s Department of Biology’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. This scholarship is available to outstanding Pre-Med and Nursing students. First preference will be given to those students whose area of emphasis is Pre-Med.
