Cecil and Edith Jacobs Scholarship

Both natives of Ware County Georgia, Cecil and Edith Jacobs devoted their lives to service. Dr. Jacobs served as Director of Public Health in Georgia, South Carolina and Oklahoma, and was noted for his work to enforce clean air and water standards, improve sanitation, and to establish neighborhood clinics. His efforts in South Carolina led to his being honored as Conservationist of the Year in 1972 by the National Wildlife Federation. He was also a practicing physician, specializing in emergency/trauma and family medicine. Edith Jacobs worked as a medical social worker, specializing in maternal and childcare, and as an elementary school teacher. She devoted many hours as a volunteer in hospitals including in Statesboro, GA, as well as providing volunteer services to community and church.
