Robert and Jane Cox Family Scholarship

Established in 2003 by Jane Cox, this scholarship memorializes the life of her late husband, Robert Cox. Robert was born in 1923 in Bulloch County, Georgia and graduated from Nevils High Shool in 1941. He attended trade school in Covington, Georgia for two years. His life was dedicated to service in Bulloch County where he was Chairman of the Bulloch County Commissioners from 1985 to 1992, a member of the Statesboro Kiwanis Club, Director of the Bulloch Telephone Cooperative, Director of Ag South Farm Credit, a member of the National Telephone Awards Committee, a member of the Fair Committee, a member of the Farm Credit Council, a member of the Georgia Tobacco Commodity Commission, a member of the Bulloch County Farm Bureau, a member of the Frank Williams Bible Study Class, a member of The Men’s Brotherhood, and a former bible study teacher. In 1997, he was named Kiwanian of the Year. Robert passed in 2001. Jane Cox was born in 1923 in Worth County, Georgia and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, but transferred to Georgia State College for Women. After graduation, she moved to Statesboro, Georgia where she began teaching Home Economics and managing the lunchroom at Nevils High School until 1955. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faith Bible Study Class. During her life, she was an avid supporter of Georgia Southern and active fan of our athletics. Jane passed in 2013. The scholarship shall consist of 2 equal awards: one to a rising junior and the other to a rising senior. Recipients must be working towards a degree from the College of Business Administration, should be Georgia residents, have excelled academically and be involved with extracurricular/leadership activities.
