Caro Lane Scholarship

Established in 1983 by Joseph D. Purvis, this scholarship memorializes the charitable works of Caro Lane. A Milledgeville native, Lane helped over fifty students attend college through paying their tuition, for their room and board, or paying for other fees. She would often let students live with her to help them during their education. Joseph D. Purvis is one of those fifty students she help put through school. During her life, Miss Lane received a degree from Georgia Southern College and also served there as Director of Health and Physical Education for Women from 1932 to 1936. From there, she joined the faculty of Louisiana State University, the Louisiana Department of Education, and the Louisiana Department of Health. She passed at the age of 102. This scholarship is available to full-time students who have demonstrated a financial need. This scholarship is renewable.
