Mitchell E. Peace Scholarship in Journalism

Established in 2006, this scholarship honors the life of Dr. Karl E. Peace’s younger brother, Mitchell E. Peace. Mitchell E. Peace was born in 1948 in Baker County and was the owner, editor, and publisher of the Claxton Enterprise – a celebrated publication. Mitchell E. Peace was a champion of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. He received many awards from the Georgia Press Association. This scholarship is available to students from Baker County pursuing a degree in Journalism. The student must maintain a GPA of 3.0.
