Charles Robert Pound, Sr. Scholarship

Charles Robert Pound, Sr. Scholarship

The scholarship was established in 1996 by Charles R. ‘Bob’ Pound Jr. and his brother, Dr. J. Mathews ‘Mat’ Pound, in honor and memory of their father. The scholarship’s namesake was an Upson County native who lived in Bulloch County most of his life. He was a retired auxiliary services administrator at Georgia Southern College. Bob Pound, a Georgia Southern College alumnus (1967), is retired from NASA/Kennedy Space Center. Dr. Mat Pound, a Georgia Southern College alumnus (1969), is a research biologist at the Tick Research Unit of the USDA ARS Livestock Insects Lab in Kerrville, Texas. His knowledge in the fields of tick and mite endocrinology and reproduction has earned him praise from livestock producers and animal health authorities as a critical resource in protecting livestock from cattle fever tick infestation. In 1997, he was named the Georgia Southern University Department of Biology’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.
