Lon Carnes/Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship

Established in 1981 by Delta Sigma Pi, this scholarship memorializes their advisor, Dr. Lon Carnes. A Jonesboro, Georgia native, Dr. Carnes attended the University of Georgia where he was an active member of the Kappa Sigma Beta Lambda chapter and served as Grand Master. He earned his B.B.A in 1953 and began working in Georgia Southern’s School of Business in 1967. There he served as the Director of Graduate Studies for the School of Business and as Executive Director of the Eastern Finance Association of the U.S. Upon his retirement in 1994, he was named Professor Emeritus in Finance.

This Scholarship is available to undergraduate members in good standing with the local Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. Recipient must be enrolled full time during the award period with a minimum grade point average of 2.6. The recipient must have shown a willingness to be active in the chapter and should demonstrate financial aid as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity. and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce; and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.

The Epsilon Chi Chapter of the Professional Business Fraternity Delta Sigma Pi and Georgia Southern University’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) teamed up to host mock interviews for the professional development of Georgia Southern business students. In the future, Delta Sigma Pi is planning to team up with SIFE to expand the interviews and include more of Georgia Southern’s budding talent.
