Carolyn Joyner Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2001 by her sister Mrs. Beverly Proctor, this scholarship remembers Dr. Carolyn Joyner, Georgia Southern Class of 1960. Dr. Joyner attended multiple universities where she earned many degrees including a PhD at Florida State University, a Masters degree at the University of Tennessee, a MRE degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a BSHE degree from Georgia Southern University. Dr. Joyner was employed as a home economist through the University System of Georgia and was a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Science, Georgie Association of Family and Consumer Science, International Textile and Apparel Associating, the Costume Society of America, and the Textile Society of America. This scholarship has a first preference for students completing their Masters degree in Fine Arts with a deep interest in textile art. Textile art is defined as historical preservation of textile art, historical fashion design of textile art, and national and international textile art. Second preference shall be given to a Masters of Fine Arts major that closely resembles that of the criteria listed above.
