Cohen and Newell D. Anderson Memorial Scholarship
The Cohen and Newelle D. Anderson Memorial Scholarship was established in 1989 following the passing of Mr. Cohen Anderson and Mrs. Newelle D. Anderson in 1997. Both Anderson’s were longtime advocates of Georgia Southern University, Southern Boosters, Statesboro First Baptist Church, and the Statesboro Community. Mr. Anderson, a native of Bulloch County attended Georgia Teachers College where he started as quarterback on the football team from 1931 to 1933. Mr. Anderson served bravely in the Army during World War II from April 1943 to February 1946. He also was a member of the Georgia Southern University Lettermen Association and was named Georgia Southern University Alumni Association Alumni of the Year in 1982. Mrs. Anderson served on the Georgia Southern University Alumni Association Board of Directors and was president for many years and also was named Alumna of the Year in 1975. Mrs. Anderson was passionate in the argument for Georgia Southern to obtain university status. This scholarship is available to full-time students within the Department of Music with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to age, race, religion, gender, marital status, or area of residency.
