Captain Bill Winn Alumni Scholarship
Established in 1993 by the Georgia Southern University Alumni Association, this scholarship memorializes the life of Captain Bill Winn. Captain Winn graduated from Georgia Teachers College in 1940 and was a longtime member of the Association’s Board of Directors. He served as the Association’s president in 1970, 1981, and 1983 and was named Alumnus of the Year in 1969. He was inducted into Georgia Southern’s Hall of Fame in 1998 for his athletic contributions to the college. During his life, he served as an Eastern Airlines pilot. This scholarship is available to the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter, or legal dependent of a graduate of Georgia Southern (or any of the school’s previous names). The student must be a senior enrolled full-time at the time the award is given and must have spent their entire junior year at Georgia Southern. Academic record, demonstrated talents, personal character, relevant extracurricular activities, and motivating interests will be considered.
