Claude A. Howard

Claude A. Howard was born March 3, 1912 in Bulloch County, Georgia. One of seven children of Arthur Howard and Annie Wilson Howard. Mr. Howard graduated from Statesboro High School and attended South Georgia Teachers College. Mr. Howard married Cecile Brannen Howard from Statesboro and they had two children, C. Arthur Howard and Cecil Brannen Howard.

Mr. Howard worked with his father’s family sawmill and building material business (Howard Lumber Company) . During the early 1940’s, Mr. Howard operated a part-time construction company. In 1946, he started in business full-time organizing Claude Howard Lumber Company, a sawmilling operation which is still in business today.

Mr. Howard died March 3, 1975. The two local businesses, Howard Lumber and Hardware and Claude Howard Lumber Company are owned and operated by the Howard family today. Pictured is the current family member running the businesses, Mr. Arthur Howard.
